- Helpful hint regarding Mac SE's with internal drives:
-
- I've noticed many of these units have an annoying buzz when the speaker is
- turned up. The buzz is usually caused by a vibrating plastic insert placed in
- the upper floppy disk port (in front of the hard drive). The best way to fix
- the vibration is to remove the front panel and fasten the insert with plastic
- cement from the back. The quickest method is as follows:
-
- The insert is set back a few mm from the front panel by one of the "racing
- stripes." The "stripe" is the same height as the width of a standard paper
- clip. Gently squeeze a paper clip and push it into the "stripe" against the
- insert and release. The paper clip will spring back into shape and hold itself
- in place within the top and bottom edges of the "stripe" while conveniently
- holding tight against the drive insert, thus preventing vibration!
-
- This quick-fix on my own SE caused a visitor with experience on an old 128K Mac
- to walk in and say, "Maybe it's a better computer than mine, but you STILL need
- a paper clip around!"
